Starting a business is work. Never mind holding closely to your business ideas so that someone else doesn’t steal them; ideas are the easy part. This week’s fires:
- Multiple calls with the lender and broker to try to finalize a deal before the closing date, just to find out the reason the seller has been dragging his feet is because he’s received a higher, cash, offer for the building from the current neighbors.
- Calls and emails with my insurance guy and another insurance company in Minnesota who actually knows that mobile saunas are actually a thing.
- Set up payment processing (Stripe and PayPal accounts), chosen because they’re recommended by my booking platform and PayPal due to some random YouTuber’s review of Acuity’s options.
- Set up my booking platform (Acuity), chosen because it accepts promo codes and Calendly doesn’t. It is also reasonably priced at a fixed fee (starting at $16 for the basic plan) rather than a percentage of revenue. Most companies must not understand how much they’re giving away when they are pay 5-6% to their booking platform.
- Set up a Google account for the business. Set up analytics for the website.
- Impromptu visit to Scooby’s to validate installation location of horn for the truck. Need to let go of microdecisions like this.
Starting to get real. Needing to decide whether to attempt to pursue this full-time – against many people’s advice – or continue the day job. Even what I think are conservative scenarios provide me with a reasonable salary using only the truck. Bathhouse scenarios in the new building however… Have to keep telling myself: there are always going to be jobs that I can go back to if needed.
